Technical Services Division

This division has two units namely:

  • Cataloguing & Classification Unit

This unit is charged with the processing of library materials by getting all the bibliographic details of the book (author, title, page number among others). Furthermore, it also assigned the responsibility of putting the call number on all books by using the Library of Congress Classification scheme to get the right classification mark for book.

  • Collection Development Unit

This unit is charged with building the collections of the library and providing a policy guide on how to build up collections. The collection development unit serves as the first point of call on all new materials brought into the library. Library materials (both print and non-print) are processed here. It involves assigning accession numbers, stamping, and listing the book into the accession register.

Reader Services Division

This division has three units namely:

  • Circulation Unit

This unit is the eye of the library. It is charged with the responsibility of registering all new patrons (students and staff) of the University. The unit houses all textbooks needed by patrons and is shelved in a systematic order to ease retrieval. Now that the Library is using KOHA Library Management Software (LMS), patrons can sit in the comfort of their houses, hostels, and classroom to register as new user and then come to the Library to finalize their registration at the Circulation Desk.

  • Serial Unit

As the name implies, this unit is where serial publications are selected for acquisition, processed, made available, and accessible to users. The publications housed in this unit are those that are published at intervals and examples include academic journals, newspapers, magazines, conference proceedings, newsletters/news bulletins, and other similar materials.

  • Reference Unit

This unit helps readers to find the information they require. Staff is readily on hand to provide users with personal assistance on how to locate required information. Information resources found at the Reference Unit include encyclopedias, handbooks, yearbooks, dictionaries, atlases, prospectus, and other sources of information. Assistance provided at the unit is not restricted to that unit alone but to the entire library. Information resources in this unit cannot be borrowed/loaned but only consulted in the Unit.

Systems Division

This division consists of two units namely:

  • elibrary Unit

This unit provides access to electronic resources subscribed by the University and also provides a conducive environment for students and staff to do their research and other academic activities. It has over 200 desktop computers networked and connected to the internet to enhance research for all its users. It further provides literacy training to all patrons.

  • Digital and Repository Unit

Though this is a new unit, this unit is responsible for populating the University Institutional Repository and to digitize Information resources in the library.

Bindery Unit

This unit is responsible for the preservation of information resources in the library where worn-out information sources are repaired and bound. The unit uses specific materials and methods to make sure the information resources stand the test of time. Furthermore, the unit is charged with printing University calendars, training SIWES students to update their knowledge in bookbinding among others.
